221 East Side Square, 35801
Uniqueness is the thought when you see the loft of Andy Lowery. The third floor of his courthouse square office building was converted into a distinctive livable space. The kitchen makes quite a visual statement without even knowing the history of some of the materials.

The designer located an early 1900's iron and glass door with a painted European scene salvaged from an Italian villa. A transom was designed to heighten the door, and aged to resemble the aged iron of the door. This door, signed by the artist, became the separation between the kitchen and the pantry. Wit lighting coming from behind. The European setting depicted brings the kitchen to life.

The taupe cabinets are custom designed by Brenda Barton of Kitchen Gallery. Margaret Ann located an English wrought iron fire back she envisioned as the focal point for the backsplash. Working with Ceramic Harmony for the granite countertop and the backsplash design, this fire back was inset into a solid slab of travertine and rests above the granite countertop and copper sink.

Another travertine slab was installed in the space above the cook top. Cassettes of polished stone mosaic are recessed into the slabs for balance and texture. The remainder of the kitchen backsplash is completed with tumbled Italian stone. The kitchen floor is reclaimed heart pine in 14 inch wide planks. The ceiling has hand hewn beams with reclaimed white cedar from the mushroom vats of the Campbell Soup Factory.
