Our renovation started by extending the original oak flooring from the foyer throughout the main floor of the house. We selected custom Mouser cabinetry in a classic style. The warm, burnished natural cherry wood cabinets include handy features such as pull-out drawers, tray storage, and a trash/recycling center. A large center island is the main feature and most-often used element of the room, providing plenty of work space, storage, and seating for two. Both ends of the island include shallow shelving for quick access to staple food items. The granite countertops are alive with movement, in earthy tones of beige, brown and pink, complimented by a ceramic and glass tile backsplash. The stainless apron-front farmhouse sink is a luxury, and we really enjoy the faucet with its restaurant-style sprayer. Stainless Kitchenaid appliances add a modern touch. A mixture of hanging lights, recessed lights, and under-cabinet lights brighten the room. Detailed crown moulding tops it all off and ties in with the rest of the house.
We have placed a walnut-stained kitchen table and chairs in the breakfast nook. This is our favorite place to sit and eat at the end of a long day. We also have placed a large free-standing cabinet opposite the nook, to keep cookbooks close at hand, and to bring in a personal touch with photos, and various trinkets from around the world. This kitchen perfectly fits our style and way of living. We hope you enjoy your tour.
