Obama's First Visit to Huntsville

By , About.com Guide

Senator Barack Obama visited Huntsville on July 9 for a $1000/plate fundraiser luncheon at The Heritage Club to kickoff his Alabama campaign for the 2008 Presidential election. After the luncheon, Obama headed to Birmingham for another fundraiser.

Obama said that he wanted to talk about things that everyone in the country is interested in:

Obama stated his goal, "What I want to do is get beyond some of the divisions that we've had in terms of race, faith and ideology and try to apply some common sense to issues like healthcare and education and energy that allow us to move forward as a country as opposed to constantly bickering in Washington."
