September 29-October 1, 2006 was the first time in ten years that the Buckhorn Tavern Skirmish was Reenacted in a Civil War Living History Weekend at Sharon Johnson Park in New Market, Alabama. Units participating included:
1st Alabama US Cavalry
4th Alabama Cavalry Co B
6th Alabama Cavalry Regiment
11th Alabama Cavalry
15th Alabama Cavalry
Forrest's Escort
Alabama State Militia Artillery
Walton's Battery
Water's Battery
4th Alabama Infantry Co F
51st Alabama Infantry Co A
This was my first adventure seeing a reenactment of a Civil War battle. As a Southern girl with deep Confederate roots, it was a deeply moving experience. If a picture is worth a thousand words, actually "seeing" is worth a thousand pictures!
