This home is a fine example of the "Folk Victorian" style that was common from 1870-1910, reflected by the delicate spindled porch supports, recessed entry, and the wooden fish scaled shingles in the high pitched front gable. Owned by the Coombs family and their children from 1899-1919, it was then sold to the Wills-Taylor School, a private preparatory school.
The Wills School added a two-story addition to the rear of the house, and it was used as a boys dormitory until 1923. The school then became the Huntsville College, and the house was used as the college physics and chemistry laboratory.
A fire destroyed the addition in 1925, leaving only the original home intact. The rear half was partially reconstructed, and when the Huntsville College folded, the home was sold and has been a private residence since 1928.
