805 Randolph Avenue

805 Randolph Avenue, the 1905 Forbes - Townes House a modest late Victorian cottage also bears a later addition bungalow style porch, and was once the home of Harry Townes, a character actor, who usually played informers, small-time crooks, wrong-headed military officers or duplicitous businessmen. You may not recognize his name, but you would surely recognize his face. His acting career began while he was attending the University of Alabama. He starred in The Mountain with Spencer Tracy, & Fitzwilly with Dick Van Dyke. He had roles on Knotts Landing, Gunsmoke, Kraft Television Theatre, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Twilight Zone, 12:00 High, The Outer Limits and the Zane Grey Theater just to name a few.

He retired from the stage, moved back to Huntsville, became an Episcopal minister, and died not long ago at the age of 86. He was a very nice, very polite gentleman, and was said to be delightful company.
