Loretta Lynn, the Queen of Country Music, graced Huntsville with her presence for her first concert of 2007. After 45 years in the country music business, Loretta Lynn, 71, still reigned supreme on stage to a wildly, enthusiastic and sold-out crowd. Lynn "held court" in her unique, warm and gracious style while talking to the audience, introducing members of her band, one of her twin daughters (Patsy), a granddaughter and a Washington State music winner. Continually responding with humor and poking fun at herself and laughing with the audience, she proved that fame hadn't changed her and she was and continues to be just a not-so-plain old "coalminer's daughter." She performed an amazing concert, especially considering she'd been in bed sick the day before and been adviced to cancel the concert.
Towards the end of the concert, Loretta and her backup singers presented a mini-gospel concert, which ended with Loretta belting out a moving version of "How Great Thou Art" a capella. Before the audience had time to catch their breath, she finished with the song the audience had waited all evening for: "A Coalminer's Daughter." Then she swept off stage, only coming back out for one more standing ovation. Loretta Lynn, the Queen of Country Music, had not let Huntsville down.
