The front and rear gardens of the 1916 cottage have undergone quite a transformation since the current owner purchased the property in the spring of 2004. The gardens were overgrown and many of the large plants were diseased. In fact, the tiny area in front of the house was crowded with an apple, cherry and redbud tree. The owner began by removing these trees and designing formal yet simple gardens to complement the style of the home.

The front of the home now has a small lawn bordered by dwarf English boxwoods with two columnar wax leaf privets marking the entrance. To outline the white stucco home, white azaleas were used as foundtion plantings. A copper window box completes the front of the house and provides a place for seasonal color.

The courtyard at the rear of the home consists of a brick patio and another small lawn area. Two large cherry trees form a canopyover the courtyard making it the perfect spot for entertaining.

A wonderful rustic armillary anchors the lawn, which is surrounded by shade loving plants including rhododendrons, azaleas, hydrangeas, hostas, ferns, Japanese maples and seasonal plantings.
