If it's summer and you're hot, then you need to head over to the 32-acre Point Mallard Aquatic Center in Decatur. It features the first wave pool in the United States. It opened August 9, 1970 with attendance at the waterpark of 500. The 2007 opening day attendance was 2,068. Nowadays, in addition to the wave pool, the park includes the 3 Flume Slide attraction, Duck Pond children's play area, Sky Pond & Squirt Factory, and the Space Bowl. There is also picnic areas under trees, lounge chairs scattered around the park, and great concessions.
Park hours are:
10 am-6 pm Mondays & Wednesdays with half price admission.
10 am-8 pm Tuesdays & Thursdays with half price admission after 5 pm.
10 am-6 pm Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays with regular admission.
