Opening Doors for Handicapped Students...

Georgina Chapman & Lynn Hays Greet Guests

The Ability Foundation hosted "Huntsvegas" -- a new fundraiser event on Sunday, Nov. 6 at Olde Towne Brewery in downtown Huntsville. I stopped by this fun event to check it out! If you like playing poker, blackjack, roulette, Texas Hold'em and other card games, then you'd love this event.

The Ability Foundation is a two-year old non-profit, grassroots organization that raises money to install handicapped-accessible, automatic doors in schools. These doors are not federally mandated but the Ability Foundation believes they are fundamentally important in securing the safety and accessibility rights for students, teachers and parents with mental and physical disabilities. Since August 2004, the Ability Foundation has installed 28 handicapped doors within Huntsville and Madison city schools and Madison county schools.
