January can be a pretty dull month that's all about doing taxes and staying warm in some places, but the party doesn't stop in the Shoals. There is still plenty of entertainment to be found if you know where to look. The month starts off with the first annual Sam Phillips Music Celebration January 3-7. The event will honor Sam Phillips' legacy, but it's also intended to be a celebration of today's music. It will be a weeklong party with all kinds of music and entertainment planned.

The Sam Phillips Celebration won't be your only chance to catch live music in the Shoals this January. There are more clubs with live music cropping up all the time. Three new venues include Swampers in the new Shoals Marriott with live music nightly, Big Ed's in the soon to be east Florence entertainment district, and the Nolen-Cole Gallery featuring jazz and blues on Friday and Saturday nights.
