Tommy Mathis and ICON Shoes

Tommy Mathis and ICON Shoes

While we are on the subject of fashion I want to take the opportunity to profile another local celebrity in the fashion world (or is it the art world). I'm talking about local painter Tommy Mathis and these days he's positioned right where art meets fashion. Tommy paints with a bold colorful style that has long been appreciated by his clients in the United States, the Caribbean and Europe. He often finds his inspiration while traveling.

Tommy's unique impressionistic style recently caught the eye of the designers at ICON shoes and now a number of his paintings are featured on their trend setting leather products. ICON uses an innovative, permanent printing process to bond images to leather. They produce a line of comfortable shoes, purses, and other small fashion accessories from top grain American leather that's been printed with the work of both contemporary and classical artists. Tommy is in good company as the list of painters ICON has chosen to feature includes names such as Paul Cezanne, Leonardo da Vinci, and Edgar Degas. The photograph above shows one of Tommy's original paintings and the shoe with the same image is displayed in front.

ICON products with Tommy Mathis paintings are available locally at his wife's shop Marigail Mathis or at his gallery, ARTifacts. Mark your calendar now for his annual Super Bowl Sunday sale at the gallery February 5th when everything will be marked from 20% to 75% off.
