Tennessee Valley Art Center...Muscle Shoals Concert Series...

Pianist Olga Kern

The new exhibit at the Tennessee Valley Art Center opens on January 29th. The show titled Hiroshigi, Kabuki, Toulouse-Lautrec: woodblock prints from East to West, is a collection of traditional Japanese wood block prints. This show is designed to illustrate the influence of Japanese art on modern art. The show will run through March 10th. The museum at 511 N. Water St. is open Sun. 1-3 p.m., Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.

The Muscle Shoals Concert Series brings award-winning pianist Olga Kern to the Shoals on January 30th. Miss Kern tours extensively and has performed at The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and at noteworthy venues on all 5 continents. She was the first female Gold Medal winner of the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, in over 30 years. Ronald Broun of TheWashington Post wrote "Kern's musicality radiates off the stage and saturates the hall, and it is joyously alive, immediately communicative, fragrantly sensual, and almost visual in its intensity. Whatever it is - call it star quality - music likes Kern the way the camera liked Garbo." She is sure to delight Shoals audiences and provide a glorious conclusion for the month of January.
