After changing into a spa robe, another surprise--who knew I would need to change clothes to have a facial?--I climbed into the spa chair and got comfortable. One thing I really liked about the spa facial at DYA was that the overhead light was turned off (see...it's the little things!) and she used a lamp to see what she was doing. Galina gave me the best facial massage I have ever had. She has a light but firm touch and the massage is "rougher" (not the best way to describe it) and deeper than the normal face massage. In fact, Galina actually gives an upper body massage. She massaged my neck, upper back, forearms and face. I was liking this!
Another thing different about this facial: Galina asked if she could "shave" my face! Yes, you heard it right. I had asked about waxing and she had suggested shaving. At first I was offended, but then she explained that the shaving, with a special tool, helps to remove dead skin and any excess hair on the face. Then we had a discussion about how men almost always have better-looking skin than women. This was like a micro-dermabrasion treatment thrown in with my facial.
