If you've always wished you could attend the Academy Awards or the Tony Awards, then you have an annual chance to get a taste of the awards ceremony glitz, glamour and excitement right here in Huntsville. The Annual Wings Awards were started in Huntsville in 1992 as a way for all the local theatre and dance companies to get together and honor one another with recognition for a job well done. As anyone who has worked in theatre knows, there are countless hours involved in producing any show: auditions, rehearsals, set construction and design, costumes, finding money, etc. People in Huntsville do it for the love of theatre, definitely not for the money--all are volunteers. Some people might call them crazy--but they are dedicated to bringing their craft to the stage and entertaining all of Huntsville and the surrounding community.
Once a year all people involved in shows and productions shut down their stages and come together, dressed up and eager to share their talents in skits and songs, laughing together and marveling at all the hard work of the year before. Let's hope these "fools" never grow tired of presenting their talents onstage and behind the scenes so we can have such a wide variety of live entertainment to partake in our community!
The production companies involved in the Wings Awards are Ars Nova School of the Arts(AN), Community Ballet Association(CBA), Fantasy Playhouse(FP), Huntsville Community Chorus Association(HCCA), Independent Musical Productions(IMP), Renaissance Theatre(RT), The Arts Council(TAC), and Theatre Huntsville(TH).
