Sordid Lives was a 2000 movie with the such noted stars as Beau Bridges, Delta Burke and Olivia Newton-John in it. Sordid Lives is a "laugh a minute farce of twisted lives, death, tears, infidelity, nymphomania and other comic events" by the famous playwright Del Shores, who also wrote Daddy's Dying, Who's Got The Will. His latest show is Southern Baptist Sissies. Is nothing sacred to this man? It's hard to believe that he also wrote TV scripts for Touched By An Angel!
Since this is one of the newer plays, Sordid Lives is filled with references that we can identify with: Laugh-In reruns, Thelma & Louise, Oprah, and Tammy Wynette. There's gossiping, pill-popping, eating, talk of honky-tonkying, gun handling, motorcycle riding and smoking. I just hate to admit how much I enjoyed the company of these White Trash folks! I loved the background music, too!
What a dream cast with Karen Lynn, Robbie Shafer, Lee Deal, Gary Lee Knight, Jerry Pucket, Terri King, Lezlie Lanza, Sharon Ryan, Mark Moorehead, Kevin Hagood, Teresa MacDonald and introducing Dean Eason as Ty. Each person holds his own in this cast. Rednecks, White Trash, Sluts and Cheaters never looked so real as these actors make their characters come alive. Once the cast has warmed us up with Act I, Terri King and Lee Deal steal the show in the opening of Act II with their red hot therapy scene. From then on, it's just a roller-coaster of jokes, one-liners and insane screaming and hollering as the funeral begins.
If cursing a bluestreak doesn't scare you, don't miss this laughable look at the goings-on of a embarrassingly, almost-true Southern family!
