I couldn't help but compare her performance with last spring's Art Garfunkel Concert. Both are talented, well-known singers...but the similarities stop there. Amy was relaxed, talkative, easy-going; Garfunkel seemed to be uncomfortable on stage and mostly turned his back on the audience! Even the stage presentation was better at the Amy Grant concert. At Garfunkel's concert, his band blocked the audience's view of the orchestra and no risers were allowed. This particularly was a sore spot for me because he didn't perform until the second half of the program and still we couldn't see the orchestra very well.
In contrast, the orchestra was on risers at the Grant concert and Amy was on stage for the whole concert, only resting occasionally as the orchestra performed a few pieces without her. When audience members yelled out requests, she tried to fill them or jokingly promised to relearn that particular song and sing it the next time she was in Huntsville...oh, by the way, twenty years ago was the last time she was here!
