I always think that playwrights and comedians use foul language because they are too lazy to think of a better word. A few of the words in this show may be that way, but I think the playwright had to use most of them to shock the audience, create the edge and show the personalities of his characters. Just as we don't expect Tony Soprano to use a more gentlier language, these characters of Lindsay-Abaire's shouldn't be expected to either.
And speaking of language, please be aware that you probably won't understand a good 1/4 of this play. The show is filled with "stroke talk," lisping, potty language and other abnormalities. Even if you don't understand every word, you will laugh anyway because the lines are delivered with such passionate and energy. Rhonda Young's "stroke talk" and Billy Jenkin's lisping are certainly highlights of the show.
