Documentaries at Gas Studios

The crowd waits for the film to begin at Gas Studios.

Many of the professional documentaries were screened at b] Gas Studios owned by Clio award winning photographer Robert Rausch. I saw my favorite film of the festival at this screening. I should note however that I didn’t see every film by any means.

The documentary I was so taken with is called “I Fight With My Camera” and it’s about civil rights photographer Charles Moore. Moore is from Tuscumbia and has moved back here to retire. I’ve known Charles for some time now, but didn’t realize what an impact he had on the civil rights movement until I saw this film. After the film I just had to rush over and grab his hand to tell him how honored I am to be his friend. Daniel Love and Kenneth Love of Pittsburgh, PA made the film about Moore, and it took the Sweet Home Alabama award for the festival.

The runner up in this category was another film I’m very fond of “The Burglar” by local Producer/Director Steve Richerson. The rest of the 2006 winners can be viewed on the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival web site. There were plenty of quality films submitted and I’m glad I wasn’t one of the judges trying to make a decision.
