Information & Tips On Huntsville

By , About.com Guide

There are a lot of things to learn about a city in order to live there successfully. Sometimes it takes years to find out some of the "secrets" and tricks to living a comfortable life in Huntsville. I'm here to help make that easier for you.
  • Sam's Club Free Huntsville Sampling Event: try time-saving, ready-made delectable desserts, appetizers and seasonal gourmet foods during the ninth annual Holiday Taste of Sam's Club sampling event Nov. 18-20 from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Sam's Club in Huntsville, AL (2235 National Blvd). The event is open to the public. Don't miss the homemade, read-to-serve Cheesecake Factory® Reese's® Peanut Butter Cup Chocolate Cheesecake.
  • There are two new websites and a Facebook page to promote the visual arts in Huntsville:
GalleryTour.org of course, will have general info on our Huntsville Gallery Tour, including maps and links to participating galleries.
HuntsvilleGalleries.org will serve as a "Hub" linking all the local galleries participating in the Gallery Tour.
facebook.com/HuntsvilleGalleryTour will contain the latest info on the upcoming Gallery Tour.
  • Going to the Galaxy of Lights? The entrance for Galaxy of Lights has moved about a quarter mile west from the Garden's main entrance off of Bob Wallace Avenue to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center's Exit 15 off of I-565.
  • One of the best Elvis Tribute Artists I've ever seen is Mitchell Brown. I was thrilled to hear that Mitchell Brown and The Twickenham Orchestra will be live in concert at the VBC Concert Hall on Saturday, January 14, 2012! Tickets are now on sale. You can order your tickets at the VBC Box Office or online at Ticketmaster.com, or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Ticket prices range from $14.50 - $26.50 per seat.
  • Interested in old buildings? The Huntsville History Collection is a new online resource of information about the history and architecture of Huntsville and Madison County in conjunction with the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.
  • Flat Daddies is a new project to help children cope with the absence of their father (or mother) when they are serving in the military. Flat Daddies is like Flat Stanley (remember him?) only he's life-size and helps the child remember their Dad wile they are away. Some even take the cardboard cut-out out for dinner and other places. You can help by donating to the cause or sponsoring a Flat Daddy for someone.
  • A new movie for the Hallmark Hall of Fame, premiering on ABC in 2012, is being filmed in Alabama at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center's Space Camp. The story is based on the book, "A Smile as Big as the Moon: A Teacher, His Class and Their Unforgettable Journey," a real life story.
