Tips for Week of February 8, 2007

  • What's your Chocolate IQ ? Do you fancy yourself a chocoholic? Are you in need of choco-therapy? Test your cocoa IQ to see if you're a true connoisseur.
  • Richard Joye comes from a family of tinkerers and engineers. So, since we don't get snow very often, Joye took things in his own hands. We might not have snow now, but in Monrovia, it's a winter wonderland quite often.
  • The Botanical Garden is hosting a lunch at Carrabba's in the Parkway Place Mall on Wednesday, February 14, at 11:30 a.m. Reservations must be made in advance no later than February 9th through Amy Golden at 430-3572 ext.243. The cost is $18.50 per person.
  • On Feb. 10 from 1-4 pm, The Fresh Market has a free cooking demonstration on how to prepare Herbed Sirloin Medallions with a Zinfandel Shallot Sauce . Professional Chef Jeff Anderson will be demonstrating all the steps necessary to prepare this entrée. Each demonstration takes approximately 25 minutes from start to finish, with a tasty sampling at the end.
  • I got a GPS for Christmas...but haven't figured out to how to use it yet. If you have one and know how to use it, you might want to download a free GPS self-guided tour of Huntsville from Travel By GPS.
  • Heart & Home Sweepstakes gives you a chance to win a week long spa trip to Rancho La Puerta for Two plus a $1,000 Bed Bath & Beyond shopping spree. We can dream, can't we?!
  • Angels Among Us will grant two $5,000 college scholarships in 2007 to local seniors. They will choose a young man and a woman who have demonstrated a history of civic responsibility as well as financial need. Deadline to apply is March 20. Application online.
