Tips for Week of January 25, 2007

  • The Holiday Inn -Huntsville Downtown now has over 450 black and white photographs of historical interest on permanent display. The public is invited to stop by and tour the public areas and guest room corridors of the hotel filled with images of historical homes and buildings, local personalities, notable events and scenes from everyday life throughout Huntsville's colorful past.
  • Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville has two new exhibits opening: Mexican Prints on Feb. 2 and Matisse Picasso and the School of Paris on Mar. 2.
  • What's new in Guntersville? Songwriter Leon Venerable of Woodville is now hosting two songwriter nights at the Outlaw SteakHouse . Every 2nd Tuesday of each month is the Beginner's Night; every 4th Friday is the Pro Writer's night. The admission is free. Any songwriters who want to be booked can contact Leon at leon.venerable@gmail.com .
  • The Arts Council is hosting a Grant-Writing Workshop that covers the Alabama State Council on the Arts' (ASCA) grant-writing process Feb. 27 from 10 am-2 pm. Pre-registration required by Feb. 22.   • Schools have the opportunity to win gift card grants and backpacks as part of the Keep America Beautiful Aquafina and SAM'S CLUB "Students for Recycling " program. "We won nationally last year and certainly w ant to win again this year," Joy McKee executive director of Operation Green Team stated. Huntsville had 3 of the 5 schools from Alabama that placed in the top 50 nationally last year.
