Tips for Week of March 8, 2007

  • As noted last week, we're losing an hour of sleep on March 11th. This has been declared Sleep Awareness Week by the National Sleep Foundation . What's the least painful way to cope with the time change? Starting a few days before the time shift, start heading to bed a little earlier each night - even 15 minutes earlier for three days can start to make a difference. And, set your alarm clock for 15 minutes earlier, too. Correction : Last week, I had the fall date wrong--it's Nov. 4th. Thanks to those who wrote me.
  • Did you miss the Clintons' visit to last week? Here's a video of Hillary Clinton using a fake Southern accent during her speech in Selma, Alabama.
  • The Huntsville Freecycle mailing list has had to change its name for legal reason (so as not to use the "Freecycle" name). It's now Huntsville Recycle . It's a great site--check it out.
  • My son & I had a lot of fun with this site that tells you how many people have the same name as you. It's called How Many of Me . I was surprised to find out that there's only one of me...hey, that didn't come out right!
  • Congratulations to Butler Theatre for being invited to perform at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, NE in June. one-act play, Booby Trap, competed at the Alabama State Thespian Festival and won Best Costumes, Best Tech, Christina Ailor earn! ed Best Lead performance, and the entire show earned Chapter Select. Well done!
  • On April 12th or 17th, Burritt on the Mountain - A Living Museum will be holding Historic Open Hearth Cooking Classes and Dinners . These unique classes prepare the cook for the extraordinary task of cooking over an open fire using cast iron cookware and antique utensils. For more info, call contact Teresa now at (256) 512-0142.
  • Speaking of cooking, this Saturday from 1-4 pm, The Fresh Market will have a free cooking demonstration on how to prepare Savory Herb Pesto Crusted Lamb Chops with a Polenta Cake & Red Wine Sauce.
  • Congratulations to Beverly Sims of Hazel Green High School who has been named Alabama Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year by the Alabama Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (ALAFCS). (9) There are two the MOMS Clubs of Huntsville --one for the north zip codes and one for the south zip codes. The MOMS Clubs are a a non-profit organization that is a support group for stay-at-home moms offering friendship, support and lots of fun activities for the moms and children.
