Tips for Week of March 23, 2006
- Home Buddieshas added a new division of their Nanny service called Mommies Helpers, a permanent part-time service for 20 hours or under a week. For more information, call Mary Alice at (256) 882-1299.
- The Huntsville Museum of Artis bringing food, music and fun to downtown Huntsville with Salsa in Spring, an Art Party at the Huntsville Museum of Art, Thursday, April 20. The event is open to the public and tickets can be bought in advance for $8 each. Admission is $10 at the door. Museum members are FREE. RSVP's should be made by April 17 at reservations@hsvmuseum.org reservations@hsvmuseum.orgor 535-4350 ext. 208.
- A mass in Polishwill be celebrated on Sunday, March 26 at 5:00 PM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 13550 Chaney Thompson Rd in Huntsville. Mass will be celebrated by Chaplain (Major) Jerzy Rzasowski from Redstone Arsenal. For more information, call Edward Morfenskie at 883-8245. Please do not call Good Shepherd Church. Also, instruction in the Polish language and culture is available each Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm in the multi-purpose room of Good Shepherd.
- I found a fascinating piece about Vernon Derrick in Arab Today. Derrick is a retired fiddler who has backed such artists as Lefty Frizell, Stonewall Jackson, George Morgan and Merle Travis. He's also been in the Hank Williams Jr. Bama Band and toured with Hank Williams III (Shelton).
- We recently purchased specialized license platesfor both cars. We chose the " First to the Moon" plates that help support the restoration of the Saturn V Rocket at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. The Alabama Image Initiativeis a non-profit organization formed to help build support for a 're-branding' of Alabama as the "First to the Moon" state.
- Normal is the name of only two towns in the U.S. The other is in Illinois. Normal, derived from the French "ecole normale" or "training college" was commonly used into the 1960s to designate U.S. schools that churned out new teachers. Normal, AL is only a postal designation for Alabama A&M University, located in Huntsville, and has no local government.
