Tips for Week of March 30, 2006

  • Cyn Shea's has plans to build a new specialty bakery and restaurant downtown on Church Street across from the Huntsville Convention & Visitor's Center. It will offer breakfast, lunch and supper described as gourmet food in a comfortable atmosphere. There will be lots of parking, wireless internet available, a single stage and two fireplaces. Should be ready to open mid-summer.
  • Visionland amusement park in Bessemer is now to be called Alabama Adventure . Future plans for Alabama Adventure include the addition of an indoor waterpark, animal park, RV park, sports complex and more. Alabama Adventure opens for the 2006 season on April 22.
  • A new economic survey ranks Alabama as fifth among the Top 10 states rated as national leaders in business friendliness. The national study, released annually by Chicago-based Pollina Corporate Real Estate Inc. , evaluates the business climates of U.S. states based on 26 factors considered important in conducting and succeeding in business. The top 10 states , in order, are: South Carolina, Virginia, South Dakota, North Carolina, Alabama, Wyoming, Georgia, Washington, Florida and Oklahoma.
  • Alabama's unemployment rate decreased to 3.6 percent in February, down two-tenths of a point from its January rate. The number of unemployed in the state is down by 13,000 since last year.
  • Do you think you're pretty smart? Want to try out for Jeopardy ? For the first time ever, Jeopardy! will give its fans a more convenient and accessible way to become a contestant on the nation's #1 quiz show. Just launched, Jeopardy! contestant test is now offered online as the first step toward being on the show. The preliminary online screening will consist of a 50-question, 50-category test which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
