Tips for Week of April 20, 2006
- Last year's American Idol runner-up, Huntsville-born Bo Bice, was recently honoredin the Alabama Music Hall of Fame Museumwith a special display of Bice's memorabilia.
- I'm a big Elvis fan...so I was thrilled to hear that Elvis Presley's first home in Memphis is up for sale. The modest, four-bedroom house at 1034 Audubon Drive in Memphis was posted on eBay last Friday. Both Graceland and this house have recently been added to the National Historic Register of Homes.
- Is it too little too late? The Alabama Legislature on Monday approved a bill that would pardon Rosa Parks the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr , and other civil rights activists convicted of violating Jim Crow laws in Alabama.
- Well, it was kind of a disaster last year when the Family Edition of The Amazing Race turned everyone off the show. But they are back to their original format now and CBS is accepting applications for THE AMAZING RACE 11. Deadline for applications is June 11th. They will be in Atlanta later on for try-outs.
- Fox 54, The Valleys WB and 20th Television have joined forces to launch a new network, MyNetworkTV , replacing the WB network which closes down in September. The station can be found on all local cable outlets including Knology ch. 6, Comcast ch. 8, Direct TV ch. 6. My NetworkTV starts Tuesday September 5, 2006.
- Some rare family photos and a collection of Truman Capote's letters to his favorite aunt in Alabama -on topics ranging from Harper Lee to Tallulah Bankhead to his longing for down-home butter beans - are going on permanent display in Monroeville, where the writer spent some of his boyhood.
