Tips for Week of May 18, 2006

  • Hooked on "American Idol"? Pop-Tarts™ fanscan purchase tickets for the 2006 American Idols Live! The Birmingham concert is August 8th.
  • Lifetime TV is on a crusade to stop drive-through mastectomies. You can sign a petition on their website to help get new breast cancer legislation introduced on Capitol Hill. The Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act of 2005 will guarantee that women and their physicians, not insurance companies, will decide when they are ready to go home.
  • Angel Food Ministriesis a non-profit, non-denominational organization that works through churches and community organizations in over 32 states and is dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout the United States. No income restrictions. Pay $25 for approximately $50 worth of food (once a month). In Huntsville the host church is First Baptist Church (P/U at Manna House). For more info, call (256) 428-9400.   • I noticed that the Daniel Klibanoffhouse on top of Monte Sano is listed at $14.4 million and is the " estate of the day" for Sotheby's International Realty.
  • If you're a computer geek, you probably already know the top 10 top cities in Alabama ranked according to the number of free wireless internet hotspots. They list Huntsville as #4 with only 12 hotspots. I find that hard to believe in our high-tech city! We need to get some more hotspots, guys.
  • On Thursday, June 22 from 6:00 - 9:00, the sidewalks of downtown Huntsville will become stages for the arts in a new venture called The Sidewalk Summer Arts Stroll. There is no charge for the event or the space. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to contact either Donna Castellano at 534-8376 or Dianne Burch at Meridian Arts at 534-7475 to reserve sidewalk space.
