Tips for Week of May 31, 2007

  • With no prospect of rain in sight, I've been thinking about our water. how much is it worth to you to make just one gallon of the shower, toilet, or kitchen sink wastewater that you generated today clean enough to put back in our local waterways...the places we swim in, fish from, and get our drinking water from? At our current sewer rates, Water Pollution Control Department cleanses Huntsville's wastewater for just about three-tenths of one cent per gallon.
  • It's always fun to see the South from the eyes of a New Yorker. Check out The New York Times' Frugal Traveler when he visits Georgia & Alabama. I enjoyed his colorful language and forgive him twisted sense of humor! (3) I know it's fun to send & receiving greetings via email but Mary Landesman, About.com's Guide to Antivirus Software cautions us: "Be aware of scams that masquerade as greeting cards . It may just be a trap laid to launch trojans onto the computers of the unsuspecting."
  • Okay, no more excuses. Time to get in shape. You have two new choices: inside or outside? The Huntsville Museum of Art is offering "Pilates in the Galleries" with instructor Alison Gillespie. For more information, call (256) 535-4350 ext. 228. If outdoors is your preference try this one: Burritt on the Mountain , and Annette Beresford of the Yoga Center of Huntsville , are hosting a weekly Level 1 Beginner Class on the Green at Burritt. For more information please call (256) 536-2882.
  • WiseScrappers is a new Homeschooling and Scrapbooking Store on Highway 72 E in Gurley. They offer on-site classes and workshops on a variety of topics; sensory art, art therapy, violin instruction, beginning scrapbooking, gift making and more. For more information, call (256) 776-4730.
  • Hey, Moms, listen up: In June & July, Regal Entertainment Group theatres offer their Free Family Film Festival . Selected G & PG movies start at 10 am each Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. First-come, first-served seating is limited to theatre capacity. For more information, call Hollywood Stadium 18 at (256) 883-1602 or Madison Sq. Stadium 12 at (256) 830-6829.
  • No, you're not seeing things! Friday, June 1st, The Huntsville Stars will battle the Montgomery Biscuits while sporting pink jerseys in honor of breast cancer awareness. The jerseys will also be auctioned off during the night to the highest bidder...with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society .
  • My grandchildren are always drawing me pictures. Now you can go to LittleDirector.com and they will animate your children's drawings. A Standard Movie costs $30.00, has two characters and is 1.5 minutes long.
