Tips for Week of June 8, 2006

  • U.S. Space & Rocket Center has Day Camp all summer long for kids ages 7-11. The more weeks you buy, the cheaper it gets. The buses pick up day campers all over Huntsville. All tuition is deductible as a child care expense.
  • The Mars Exploration Rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, were only given a 90-day warranty by the engineers who designed them. Now 2 1/2 years later, they're still working!
  • It cost 91 cents per person for USA to send man to the moon. However, it pumped $10 per person into the US economy.
  • Mars is 1/2 the size of Earth and a day on Mars is about 24 hours 37 minutes. Multiply your weight by .38 to find out how much you'd weigh on Mars. A Round trip will take 2 1/2 to 3 years.
  • One-third of NASA employees will retire within the next five years; 40% of NASA employees are over 50 years old and only 4% are under 30 years old. Wanted: more and younger scientists and engineers.
  • Cypress Moon Productions in Alabama announced production of "The Story of Bonnie and Clyde," to be released about the time of the 40th anniversary of the 1967 film starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.
  • Huntsville Trader has a new website. You can buy and sell items for free to local residents.
  • By about 80% of the vote, Alabama became the 20th state to amend its constitution to protect marriage as only the union of a man and a woman. Six more states - Idaho, South Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin - will vote in November.
