Tips for Week of July 19, 2007

  • Allegiant Air , a Las Vegas-based low-fare carrier, will start a twice weekly (Monday & Friday) nonstop service to Las Vegas from Huntsville International Airport , starting Sept. 21, aboard 150-seat MD-80 jet aircraft. Limited introductory fares are as low as $89 one way, not including segment tax, fees and any extra charges. Vegas...here we come!
  • Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers is a countywide, nonprofit, community program that unites the public, the media and the police in the fight against crime. The program offers anonymity and cash rewards of up to $1,000.00 to citizens who furnish information leading to the arrest or indictment of felony crime offenders.
  • Remember the movie "Crazy in Alabama" ? Well, one Birmingham man may be proving that title is true--Jeremy Harper, 31, is counting to 1 million on the internet. Jeremy's goal is to count 16 hours per day (minus break time), which should take 3-4 months. All donations go to a charity.
  • Several people have written me asking what they're building on Bailey Cove Road beside Domino's Pizza? It's a gym...why they need four gyms with a couple blocks of each other is beyond me!
  • Emma's Tea Room is offering two different Etiquette Classes for Kids in August & September.
  • A Nurturing Moment on Airport Road carries several brands of cloth diapers including Thirsties, Bummis, Bum-Genius, Under t he Nile--100% organic, and Bamboozle--made of bamboo fibers. They also carry Charlie's Soap, the most highly recommended soap for washing diapers.
  • The City of Huntsville is sponsoring a free volleyball camp at Fern Bell Recreation Center on August 20 & 21 from 6-8 pm for students in grades 4, 5, & 6. Registration is limited. For more information, call 883-3640.
  • The Spring City Cycling Club presents the SCCC Summer Races, Alabama State Championship Road Race, Hill-Climb and Downtown Huntsville Criterium this weekend, July 21 - 22. Free ERC Kids Rocket Races at 1:00 pm with Cool Prizes for all kids, under 13 years old.
