Tips for Week of August 2, 2007
- August 17th from 9 am to 5 pm at First Baptist Church at 600 Governors Drive, Christian Women's Job Corps is offering a workshop geared to helping professionals and volunteers who work with people in poverty better understand the person who comes from generational poverty. Registration form on their website.
- If you've wondered how you can help Old Towne Brewing Company , which was destroyed in a fire on July 5th, you might want to participate in the Olde Towne Revival , a fundraising event hosted at Crossroads on August 16th. Admission is $10 and there will be raffles and four bands will perform: the Keith Ramsey Band , the Turner Family Band , Johnny Black and the J-Birds , and Sideshow .
- It's time for a trip to Guntersville. Gay Money's antique wedding dresses and vintage clothing (never seen before) will be on display at Guntersville Museum & Cultural Center , 1215 Rayburn Ave. from Aug. 3rd through Labor Day. The Museum is closed on Mondays. For more information, call (256) 571-7597.
- Speaking of the old days--Grab your poodle skirt and bobby socks and come to a sock hop this Saturday night at House of Brews from 9 pm until close. You'll get to dance to the tunes of the Crackerjacks.
- Well, if dancing isn't for you, you can still step back in time. Burritt on the Mountain is hosting James Smith , the Autoharp man from Al-la-bam. He'll be singing old time spirituals in the Old Country Church August 4th from noon to 2 pm. Regular admission.
