Tips for Week of August 16, 2007
- Bestselling author Carl Hiaasen will headline the Huntsville Library Foundation's 21st annual 'Vive le Livre--Long Live the Book' dinner event on Thursday, September 6 at 6 p.m. in the North Hall of the VBC. - Don't forget that the Huntsville Stars are in the Southern League Playoffs . The Stars will host two Divisional Series games at Joe Davis Stadium on September 6 and 7 . Playoff tickets are on sale now at (256) 882 - 2562 and www.huntsvillestars.com . Get yours now and help the Stars as they drive towards a Southern League Championship!
- Huntsville Von Braun Lions Club sponsors and conducts the annual "Old Fashioned Trade Day on the Square " around the Huntsville/Madison County Courthouse always on the first Saturday after Labor Day. This year it will be September 8th . They are presently receiving Vendors.
- The design for the Brownsboro Cornfield Maze this year is the 25th Anniversary of Space Camp logo. Make plans now to go out there and see it around September 1st.
- Lake Guntersville , Neely Henry Lake, and Dixey Bar are listed as among the 150 Best Fishing Spots in the nation by Field & Stream magazine . Lake Guntersville is known for its bass fishing and is Alabama's largest lake containing 69,100 acres and stretching 75 miles from Nickajack Dam to Guntersville Dam.
- "Unique Views Of Huntsville " is seeking submissions from visual artists (all media). The third annual juried art show will be exhibited at The Huntsville Museum of Art from October 1-7, 2007. Deadline for submissions is September 7, 2007. Applications and regulations are online at www.huntsvilleartleague.org . For further information, call HAL at 534-3860.
- If you're looking for a bargain, then check out the gift shop at the Huntsville Botanical Garden, where they have a lot of items on sale at 30-50% off. They also have their new fall merchandise in. Now's the time to get something special for all your gardening friends.
- Huntsville was named one of Top 50 Adventure Towns in September issue of National Geographic Adventure magazine. Looks like our secret is out: "High tech with a southern twang, Huntsville is a major base for NASA and the U.S. Army. Pedal 11 miles of singletrack in Wade Mountain Preserve or trek to the top of 1,100-foot Devil's Race Track for views into Tennessee."
