There are a lot of things to learn about a city in order to live there successfully. Sometimes it takes years to find out some of the "secrets" and tricks to living a comfortable life in Huntsville. I share tips in every issue of my free weekly email newsletter to make your life easier.

Tips for Week of August 17, 2006

  • I've been asked to be a "Celebrity Judge" for the Alabama Idol auditions this Saturday at UAH. I hope to see a lot of you there. It would be fabulous if Alabama kept up its winning streak on American Idol...but with one small change: move over, Birmingham, and let Huntsville have the winner this time!
  • More jobs for Alabama: A $40 million expansion of the Honda car plant in east Alabama will let the company make die-cast parts for V6 engines rather than rely on out-of-state suppliers for the components.
  • CBS has announced that starting in September, it will begin offering fans the ability to stream next-day episodes of seven of its top shows for free on its broadband Web channel innertube . Included will be all three versions of CSI, Survivor, Numb3rs, NCIS and the yet-to-debut Jericho.
  • A friend and I had lunch recently at Limestone Bay Trading Company restaurant in Mooresville (probably the cutest little town in America). The food and desserts were great as always. The restaurant is now selling homemade canned jams, jellies, relishes and pickles. These make great hostess gifts! We agreed--our favorite was the delicious candied Sweet Orange Pickles.
  • If you or your club or organization have a website, you can put a free live RSS feed of the About Huntsville website on it. Let me know, if you decide to do so and I'll thank you personally.
  • The Big Switch: Cafe Palette and Cafe Baba are owned by the same people...so the two restaurants are switching locations . I still don't understand the reasoning--but then, no one asked me! BTW, I'm still mad at Cafe Baba for letting one of their wait staff "steal" a chocolate dessert right out from under my nose.
