Tips for Week of August 23, 2007
- Congratulations to Dr. Lewis McCurdy of Huntsville who was named Veterinarian of the Year by the American Veterinary Medical Association. A past president of both the association and its foundation, Dr. McCurdy owns McCurdy Animal Hospital . Dr. Mark Russell of Huntsville also received a special award.
- On a recent trip to MacDonald's , I was horrified to find out they were out of their new hazelnut iced coffee. I don't take disappointment well, and after moaning to the cashier and again to the guy at the second window, I was given a coupon for a free coffee on my next trip. It kind of makes up for the time I went to Wendy's , ordered and paid, and then drove off without stopping to pick up my order! Then, there was the time I went to Burger King without having stopped at the ATM. I didn't realize I was down to my last dime and couldn't find any change in the bottom of my purse or anywhere in the car. I was about twenty cents short and the girl at the window let me get out of the car and scrounge on the ground for the change people drop and don't pick up! Fast food drama...

- On About.com's Guide to Frugal Living , Erin Huffstetler tells her readers how to budget for happiness . "Money can't buy happiness--we've heard it a million times, but is it true? Not according to a recent article on themorningcall.com , which suggests that spending money can, in fact, make you happy--provided you know what to spend it on."

- Rave Motion Pictures , has completed its conversion to Digital Projection. All 427 screens at 27 stadium theater complexes, located in eleven states, will now feature state-of-the-art AccessIT (NASDAQ: AIXD) systems and DLP Cinema projectors from Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN).
- A monument honoring Coretta Scott King will be unveiled Sept. 8 in Perry Count, Alabama where she was born 80 years ago. Coretta Scott, the wife of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., died of respiratory failure on Jan. 30, 2006.
- Lee Seats, About's guide to Freebies tells readers how to get a free sample of Sarah Jessica Parker's new fragrance, Covet .
