Tips for Week of September 6, 2007
- Coming October 1st, you can eat at a new restaurant in Interior Marketplace . Cafe Michael is owned by former Huntsvillian Chef Michael Griffin. He's had positions with the Ritz Carlton in Naples, Florida and Disney's Grand Floridian . Cafe Michael will offer coffee, tea and baked goods from the time the shopping complex's doors open at 9:30, full gourmet lunch service in the afternoon, and lighter fare from 2 p.m. until store closing. Future special events include wine dinners, high tea in the afternoon, and a selection of gift specialty items.
- Huntsville Area Mothers of Multiples presents "MOMs Mart " a children's consignment sale on September 7-8 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 301 Drake Avenue, Huntsville. Open Friday, 7 - 9 pm and Saturday 8 - 11 am, you'll find great bargains on gently used kids clothing, toys and accessories.
- Norman R. Augustine , Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Retired at Lockheed Martin Corporation is the guest speaker October 3rd for the SMDC 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner . There will be a Special Presentation: 50 Years of Space and Missile Defense . For more information, contact Sigma Services: (256) 533-6986.
- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has been busy recalling toys from Mattel and Fisher-Price. Now Barbie accessories are involved. Check to see photos and the list.
- If you have or love boxer dogs, you might want to check out the 70-member Madison County Boxer Meetup Group . Every first Saturday of the month, they have a get together with their boxer dogs to socialize the dogs and get to know one another.
- September 15-16 from 7 am-2 pm, the sky above Moontown Airport will be abuzz with antique, warbird and experimental airplanes, ultralights and gliders. Free flights, on a first-come first served basis, will be offered to kids ages 8-17, with parent's permission, to inspire children to follow their dreams and introduce kids to a passion that might last a lifetime. Sign up that morning--no advance registration will be offered. Breakfast will be served Saturday from 7-10 am. Proceeds will benefit EAA 190 and local organizations. For more information, call (256) 852-9781.
- Panera Bread on Airport Road, next to Fresh Market, is now open. Their crispini's are only made after 4 pm. I hear their House Latte is yummy with cinnamon and spices but the regular amount of syrup is often a bit heavy so ask for "light on the spices."
