Tips for Week of September 14, 2006

  • The New York Times announced this week that they were selling its Broadcast Media Group , which includes nine network-affiliated television stations, including Huntsville's WHNT , and related properties. About.com is not affected by this announcement.
  • Speaking of WHNT, they've got a new show for us. I love Rachel Ray (can you get any perkier? I'd like to see her & Katie Couric in a grin challenge!) and have been waiting since last year for her daily talk show to begin. It debuts Tuesday, September 18th at 3 p.m. on WHNT-Channel 19 .
  • I wish I'd know this earlier this year when "American Idol" was still on. I didn't realize that we can get FOX 6 Birmingham news here in Huntsville on Comcast Cable Channel 73! (sorry, Knology folks, you can't get it). If you want the Birmingham news, its on from 5-9 a.m. Mon-Fri; Sat. 7-8:30 a.m. and Sun 7-9 a.m. Every night you can catch it from 5-6:30 p.m. and 9-10:30 p.m.
  • US Airways has same-day walk-up fares as low as $84+ each way for 24 cities in the US in an effort to get people to use the Huntsville Airport instead of driving to another city. Be sure and sign up for the Fly Huntsville free newsletter to get updates on special air fares from Huntsville.
  • The International Day of Peace is celebrated each year on Sept. 21 by groups and individuals around the world. In 2006, there are over 1,000 events planned in 175 countries. Established by a United Nations resolution in 1981, the International Day of Peace was first celebrated September 1982. This year the virgil will be held on the steps of the Madison County Courthouse from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. Participants are asked to bring a candle.
