Tips for Week of December 1, 2005
- According to the Center for Digital Government, for the second consecutive year, the state of Alabama's official Web site has been ranked among the top ten state Web sites in the annual Best of the Web competition based on their innovation, Web-based delivery of public service, efficiency, economy, and functionality. You can find everything from current statewide weather conditions to state judicial and legislative information and over 100 interactive services.
- All shelters, rescue organizations, and persons who adopt dogs from these organizations, receive 10% off all purchases at www.TinyGiantDogs.com . Be sure to bring in your adoption papers. Right now they only have dog merchandise, but will be getting cat things soon!
- Check out National Christmas Tree Association's " Help Santa Find the Perfect Real Tree " national contest for kids ages 6-16. Take a picture of your family next to a fresh, real Christmas Tree and write a short story on why the tree is special or "perfect" to you. You could win: $5,000 scholarship or several different trips. Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm, December 31, 2005.
- The Huntsville Botanical Garden is offering "Secrets From the Garden" gift-making classes for kids ages 4-7 on Dec. 10 or 17. For more info, call Shelly at (256) 430-3572, ext. 226.
- Yesterdays Event Center in Athens is now taking reservations for their Rockin New Years Eve Variety Show and Buffet. Five hours of live entertainment includes country tribute shows to Willie Nelson, George Strait, Johnny Cash, Crystal Gayle, and Conway Twitty. Also Oldies acapella group "Back in Time", Dorothy Cole with her tribute to Tina Turner, and Kevin Adams "Re! view of the Stars".

- Speaking of books, recent victims of Hurricane Katrina, Rita, etc. are asking for two books as they start over: The Bible and cookbooks . If you can help, Ann Speck (536-4831) will take the books down to the coast of Mississippi for distribution
