Tips for Week of December 14, 2006
- Taylor Hicks will be in concert in Huntsville on March 6, 2007 at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall. Tickets go on sale at 10 am at the VBC or on Ticketmaster this Saturday, December 16th. Don't miss this opportunity for good seats! Taylor Hicks also released his long awaited CD this past week. It makes a great Christmas gift for Taylor Hicks fans.
- Want to honor your pets this Christmas & help the Greater Huntsville Humane Society ? Then think about purchasing an "Angel Light " in honor or memory of a pet. They will go on special trees at the shelter with your name & your pet's name on them. Cost is $7 for one, 2 for $10, 3 for $15, 4 for $20, etc. Call 881-8081 for more info.
- Want to help the elderly? CASA provides donated new space heaters to the elderly (60 and older) and homebound (wheelchair and homebound) and is in desperate need of more heaters. You can donate all winter. For more info, call Ann at(256) 533-7775.
- Looking to next year, mark January 26, 2007 on your calendar. It's the Backers of Bacchus Dinner and Live Auction to benefit the Huntsville Museum of Art . A gourmet meal featuring Alexander Valley Vineyards wines will be provided by Cyn Shea's. For reservations, call 535-4350, ext 208.
- The Arts Council is searching for participants ages 10 and up to perform in Panoply Arts Festival's Homegrown Talent Contest . There are four preliminary rounds of competition. Prizes for the Final Round at Panoply are $250 for first place, $150 for second and $75 for third. - Alabama has achieved 8 of the 10 possible key indicators for health disaster preparedness, according to the non-profit Trust for America's Health . The "Ready or Not?" report contains state-by-state health preparedness scores. All 50 states and the District of Columbia were evaluated, and only the states of Oklahoma and Kansas scored higher than Alabama. The two areas Alabama is lacking is the percentage of adults over 65 who have ever received a pneumonia vaccination and having a nursing workforce shortage.
- Congratulations to Katie Azzam, a 9th grader at Discovery Middle School, for winning first place in the logo contest for Junior Achievement's 2007 Bowl-A-Thon , which will take place over two weekends, January 27-28 and February 3-4 at three local bowling centers (AMF Parkway Lanes, Plamor Lanes and Redstone Lanes).
