There are a lot of things to learn about a city in order to live there successfully. Sometimes it takes years to find out some of the "secrets" and tricks to living a comfortable life in Huntsville. I share tips in every issue of my free weekly email newsletter to make your life easier.

If you know some good tips, please send them to me via huntsville.guide@about.com . I hope you find something useful to you here and feel more at home in Huntsville.

Tips for Week of December 15, 2005

  • Just in time for Christmas Eve, and thanks to Sherry Floyd for sending me this link, everyone can track Santa. This is the 50th Anniversary that NORAD and its predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) have tracked Santa. NORAD uses four high-tech systems to track Santa--radar, satellites, Santa Cams and jet fighter aircraft to help kids stay informed on that busy night.
  • This Saturday from 1-4 pm, I'm taking my sweet kitty, Samantha, to the Jones Valley PetSmart to have her photo taken with Santa. Canines welcome also. Some of the proceeds go to benefit Friends of Ferals .
  • Broadway Theatre League is offering a free master class with the stars of " Chicago " on January 7th at 11 a.m. You need a "Chicago" theatre ticket to participate. First come basis. For more info, call Broadway Theatre League at 256.518-6158.
  • Note for dog lovers: January and February, the Huntsville Botanical Garden will be open for dogs and owners to walk the grounds and enjoy the great outdoors together. Cost of admission is a-dollar-a-dog and regular admission for humans ($8 adults, $6 senior/military, $3 children, members free). Admission includes a biscuit for bonzo and a poopie bag for the owner.
  • Lately, I've received a lot of emails about advertising on the About Huntsville site. All that is done out of the New York office.
  • If your church or organization would like their events listed on the events calendar, please email me at huntsville.guide@about.com all the info.
  • Unique gift idea: You can purchase a seven piece place setting of Lenox for the Governor's Mansion in honor or memory of a loved one in your life (must be a woman). Their name will be engraved on the back of the plate and used at state dinners. There will also be an invitation to the mansion for honorees and donors. For more info, contact Leah Southern, Executive Assistant to the First Lady at Leah.Southern@governor.alabama.gov.
