Tips for Week of December 21, 2006

  • Here's something different: CASA (Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound) of Madison County has a men's Christian motorcycle group who have volunteered to deliver holiday gifts to CASA's elderly and homebound clients throughout Huntsville. Now that should be a very merry Christmas for everyone.
  • Burritt on the Mountain is planning monthly workshops that will assist Brownies and Girl Scouts in earning their badges. Stenciling will be the first class on January 9th from 3:30-5:00 pm. For more information, contact Joan Morehead at joan.morehead@hsvcity.com or 512-0146.
  • Petco on Airport Road is sponsoring three local animal rescues--GHHS/Friends of Ferals , Kailiegh's Haven , and Dixie Dachshund Rescue --through their Tree of Hope program. Stop by this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 22-23, from 1-7 pm to make a donation and/or adopt a pet.
  • Sam's Club now takes Mastercard (but not Visa!) in addition to Discover card. You can use almost any kind of credit card at their gas pumps, however.
  • If your computer is acting up and running slow, you might want to take it in to Staples for a tune-up and cleaning. They have a special through Dec. 31st of only $9.99. They'll check for worms and trojans and clean out the cat hair, too!
  • Beginning Jan. 1, 2007, The Ovation Performing Arts Center opens its doors. The center will house the Oasis Theater, The Helen Bargetzi Opera Hall, and several rehearsal rooms and studios for teaching piano, voice, and instrumentalists. It is located in Miller Plaza on Old Madison Pike in Madis on. For more information, contact Michael Gimenez at ovationarts@knology.net or call (256) 461-9631.
  • Here's another gift idea: Point Mallard in Decatur is now offering a brand new Point Mallard Passport. The passport contains vouchers from all aspects of the park and more than one voucher may be used at a time. For more information, call (256) 341-4900.
  • If you get a new camera for Christmas, you might want to sign up for Robert Schuffert's photography workshop on Jan. 24th at Trinity UMC. For more info, call (256) 881-1354. You can see Robert's gorgeous photos in his book Scenic North Alabama .
  • Children's Costume Co. is now booking January custom costume parties for children. For more information, call (256) 665-4000.
