A Weeden House Wedding

Museum Features Indoor or Outdoor Weddings

By , About.com Guide

The Weeden House Museum, located in downtown Huntsville, is a special place to have a wedding. Although Maria Howard Weeden--internationally-known artist and poet--lived in the house, she was never married. The lovely federal-style house is now a popular place for brides and grooms to exchange their vows and share their happy day.

The Weeden House Museum makes any occasion unique. The beautiful curving staircase seems to be made for a bride to descend with her gown trailing after her as she makes her grand entrance on her special day.

Although the 1819 house has electricity, it is usually lit only with candlelight for a very romantic wedding. Most weddings are held on Saturdays at the Weeden House. Some are daytime weddings, but a lot are held in the evenings.

The Rose Garden in the backyard is sometimes used for the ceremony or the reception. The Weeden House garden was a special place for Maria Howard Weeden and to her mother also. The grounds and garden have been maintained to enhance their beauty throughout the year.

The Weeden House allows the bride to choose her own caterer and music and to add her own personal touch to the wedding. Getting married in the Weeden House Museum is like getting married in a favorite aunt's home.

The Museum's director, Barbara Lauster welcomes your calls for more information regarding renting the Weeden House for your wedding, anniversary or other special occasion. She call be reached at 256-536-7718.
